Old Meets New

An ancient Forest Dragon tutors a youngling on her responsibilities as a guardian of the forest. My inspiration for this image was the concept of “old meets new” and how wisdom and skills used to be passed from one generation to the next through apprenticeships. While it’s true there are some skills that are still passed along in this manner, it’s become far more common for us to learn from videos on the internet, thus removing the human connections previous generations made with one another.

In the interests of transparency, the base image for this print was generated with an AI generator, DALL-E 3 to be precise. I then used Procreate to modify it—bringing out highlights, deepening shadows, etc.—until I was satisfied that I’d created the best image possible. I especially wanted to make sure the silent connection between the young dragon and her mentor was conveyed to the viewer. I hope you feel their connection as much as I do.
