Hades, Lord of the Underworld. In Greek mythology, he is the brother of Zeus and Poseidon and ruler of the dead, and tales tell of his abduction and forcible “marriage” to Persephone, Goddess of Spring and daughter of Demeter, the Goddess of the Harvest. In modern times, Hades has become a scheming, blue-flame-haired hothead attempting to overthrow the other Olympians. Author Scarlett St. Clair has turned the story of Hades and Persephone into a modern romantasy (romantic fantasy) spanning several books told from both deities’ perspectives. Suffice it to say that Hades, regardless of his incarnation and much like the underworld that is named for him, is a complicated character.
